Stop Making Assumptions

Just because you have life experience doesn’t mean that you know everything.  Stop making assumptions on how things will unfold before you begin.  It’s difficult to get things done when you have convinced yourself that you are unable to do it, a person won’t like it or since it didn’t work before it can’t possibly happen now.

Learning how to stop making assumptions oals is a critical task to consider as you look to think more effectively, take action and grow both personally and professionally.   If you assume you know everything then it might be difficult to move forward and accomplish anything in life since you already know the outcome before you start.

For this action step, consider writing down all of the assumptions you make today.   Towards the end of the day, look at your list and examine your thinking that went into each assumption and consider answering the following questions:

  • Is it important for you to make all of these assumptions?
  • Do you understand why you are making them?
  • What is the benefit you receive from making these assumptions?
  • Did you share these assumptions with others?  If so, how did they respond?
